@jack_xxx the trick is to burn the surface completely. And then rub back. It preserves the timber and gives it a nice even char.

It's alright. The burn marks are very patchy tho. You should have a look at shou sugi ban. It's a little more effort but gives a much better result

I really like the shape, but the “pattern“ hardly fits anywhere. I think it would look a bit better without the wax stuff, I believe at least it is wax (by seeing other posts) that adds this yellow brownish texture and light reflection.

I have never build anything before and I decided to build a bed a few months back, it turned out really nicely in my opinion. But I would not do it again because it was a damn ton of work, even if it looks really simple. Also before people are asking, the left side is narrower on purpose, since the room is quite small
